A study published in Arthritis and Rheumatology has shown that disrupting primary cilia in juvenile, adolescent and early adulthood in cartilage stops it maturing correctly, making it more prone to thinning and increasing the potential for osteoarthritis (OA) in later life. The research was primarily funded by the Kennedy Trust through a fellowship to Dr Angus Wann and a studentship to Dr Clarissa Coveney, along with additional support through the Centre for OA Pathogenesis.
